Countdown to 10

When we first rolled down the Mother Road in 2002, our 46 motorcycles, Support Team and 70 participants had no idea of their legacy. From this inaugural 8-day Challenge the Irish 66′ers were born. They sought a road that formerly linked a nation, one that fulfilled the dreams of millions and now would arise from its ashes to become ‘Our Road’.

Running from Chicago to Santa Monica, the 4,000 kilometres of Route 66 are over 90% in tact, its mystical paving empowering all who share its company. Our subsequent four visits to it forged a lifelong bond with the families, staff and friends of Temple Street and make returning to it inevitable. In crossing the 3 time zones and 8 States of North America, we get introduced to the past, present and future of a continent through its people and landscapes.

Through our preparation, training and experience, we endeavour to make the Route 66 Challenge, the road trip of a lifetime.

  • It will challenge you to fundraise for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.
  • It will challenge your Rider Fitness and Team Player ability.
  • It will challenge you from the time you roll out of Chicago until you park on the boardwalk on Santa Monica Pier, Los Angeles.
  • It will challenge you on your return as nothing you have ever done before comes close to the recollections you will have on the Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge 2010 in aid of Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.

You will also know that our challenges are nothing compared to those facing our Biker buddies and their families on a daily basis.  We do this for them in the hope that we can make life a little easier on a day by day basis.

Communities across Ireland have supported Irish 66ers in their fundraising over our four successful Challenges, their efforts combining to raise €2 million euro for our Biker Buddies for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.

Through their travels down the Mother Road the Irish 66′ers have greatly aided the provision of specialist equipment and allowed refurbishment of individual units within the Hospital.

  • The Renal Unit
  • The Intensive Care Unit
  • CT Scanner
  • A New Cystic Fibrosis Unit

Have all benefitted from the funds raised by this unique event.

As we ready for our return to Route 66 in September 2010, we are mindful of the financial downturn and the affect this continues to have on people’s everyday life.

The generosity of companies and communities has greatly assisted us in our previous Challenges and for that we are duly humbled.

But, as sickness knows no borders and projects to enhance the lives of our Biker Buddies still require funding, we ask you again to assist all our Challenge Team in their quest to partake in The Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge 2010  for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.

We can’t keep asking without thanking, so to everyone who helps us past, present and future.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH

Without people like you it would not be possible.
